François Boucher (1703-1770) is the archetypal French Rococo painter. Influenced by the Enlightenment movement, he devoted himself to Chinese themes (“The Chinese Garden”), to pastoral landscape (“Charms of Country Life”) and to a certain sensual Orientalism (“Brown Odalisque”). William Turner is known throughout the world as one of the best landscape painters of the English school. He strived to represent landscapes in what was qualified as a romantic style. As his artistic creations progressed, which are revealed here, Turner gave himself over to greater fantasy and boldness in his treatment of colour and light, verging on the imaginary in such a way as to be considered today as one of the precursors of impressionism. Born in Damascus, Syria, Ammar Abd Rabbo lived in Libya and Lebanon before moving to France at the age of 12. He has been working as a press photographer since 1990, and has signed more than sixty covers for well-known magazines. Ammar Abd Rabbo is not a war photographer, but has covered several conflicts, such as Iraq (2003), Lebanon (2006), Libya (2011), as well as several trips to Syria, in 2013 and 2014, to show the daily life and resistance of the inhabitants, rather than the military life.

In this episode, we meet Ammar Abd Rabbo, press photographer. He says of his work, that he likes to write thanks to photos. He does not define himself as a war reporter but rather as a generalist reporter. He likes to diversify: one day he wants to photograph the Cannes Film Festival, another day he wants to photograph a political event...

Born in Le Havre in 1968, CyKlop practices a playful, popular and often interactive art. He is known for his installations of urban furniture that color the city and whose offbeat poetry brings a touch of fantasy to the street. He also uses numerous supports and revisits the myth of Ulysses and the Cyclops through everyday objects that became toys, sculptures or art objects.

Jean-Michel Othoniel has set up his studio in the Marais district, in the heart of Paris. He is a visual artist who loves the metamorphoses that are imprinted in his sculptures with reversible materials. Known for having transformed the Palais Royal metro station into a "kiosk for night owls", the artist favors materials with poetic and sensitive properties.

The National Gallery of London is offering a fresh look at arguably one of the greatest artists of all – Johannes Vermeer, painter of the famous Girl with a Pearl Earring. Rembrandt is widely considered to be the greatest Dutch painter of the 17th century. A master in the use of light, particularly the chiaroscuro technique, as well as an exceptionally talented draftsman, Rembrandt’s work was considerably influenced by the dramatic events of his life (the death of his wife, financial bankruptcy, etc.). You will discover in this exhibition some of his most famous paintings exposed at the Louvre, such as “Bathsheba at her Bath”, also exposed at Mauritshuis with “The Anatomy Lecture” or his famous self-portraits. Two legends of British comedy, Ronni Ancona and Jan Ravens are joined on this Road Trip by antiquers Phil Serrell and James Braxton. Starting in the North Yorkshire town of Redcar they’ll head for auction in Stockport in Cheshire. Jan gets rather carried away and spends every single penny of her entire budget. While Ronni gets a kick out of a very kitsch glass boot. A quick detour sees Jan find out why Hartlepudlians thought a monkey was a Frenchman and Ronni is left open mouthed when Braxton takes off his clothes. Crikey!

In each episode of Photo Contest, two contestants compete on an imposed theme such as rock'n roll, Japan or architecture. They have one hour to take the best possible photographs before editing them for 30 minutes in a studio. The photographs they have selected are then presented to Agnès Grégoire, editor-in-chief of PHOTO magazine, who will have to choose the best photographer.
