The race started in 1939 and it is a symbolic race that brings together the best of Switzerland’s sailing tradition.Every year they welcome mono-hulls and multihulls on Lake Geneva, starting in the city of Geneva. More than 500 boats fight each other on this 123 kilometre (66.5 nautical miles) course from Geneva to Le Bouveret and back. Today there are about 1,200 athletes racing from approximately 98 nations, meaning this is the biggest World Championships canoe sprint racing has ever seen. The EUROSAF (European Sailing Federation) Championship will take place in the waters off the Portuguese town of Tavira.
