He is one of the most controversial artists, yet one of the most influential. Picasso's collection contained mainly Renoirs. Matisse revered him. Monet too. Renoir was crucial to the creation of the Impressionist movement, before rejecting it altogether to embark on a radically different genre, with great success. The Barnes Collection in Philadelphia has more paintings by Renoir than any other gallery in the world, and it's here that we'll attempt to lift the veil on the remarkable story of this incredible artist.

Possibly the most renowned painter in the world, Vincent van Gogh was born in Holland in 1853 but spent most of his life in France. Suffering from mental instability, Van Gogh produced more that 2,000 paintings before committing suicide aged 37. You will discover during this visit some of his most famous masterpieces, in particularly two “Self-portraits” at the Orsay Museum, “Sunflowers” exposed at the National Gallery in London, “Starry Night” and the “Church at Auvers-sur-Oise”. King Philip IV of Spain’s portrait painter, Diego Velazquez, (1599-1660) is the archetype of the brilliant court painter and alone embodies the stunning Spanish school of the “golden” 17th century. Admired for the psychological reality of his portraits, particularly that of “Pope Innocent X” belonging to the Doria Pamphilj Gallery, he is above all known for his masterpieces on display in the Museo del Prado, particularly “Las Meninas” where he represents himself beside the infant and her retinue. Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres is best known as the painter of the odalisques. Obsessed with the ideal of beauty, he glorified the female form, with its porcelain whiteness and its curves… Ingres struck a path between Classicism and the influence of the Orient. You will see the famous women bathers in “The Turkish Bath” and also some of his historic paintings such as “Oedipus and the Sphinx” and, of course, his portraits, with the famous “Monsieur Bertin”. Dulwich Picture Gallery has a collection with extraordinary origins! In 1790, the King of Poland commissioned two London art dealers. They bought paintings all over Europe, which remained in their possession after the fall of Poland. They left the collection to Dulwich College and, following their request, the first public art gallery in England opened its doors in 1817. Born in Aix-en-Provence in the South of France, Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) was a great French painter of the second half of the 19th century. Impressionist artist first, he is a initiator of the post-impressionnisme and the cubisme in his labour. In his still lifes and his “Bathers”, he is innovative in his geometric forms, which influenced the Cubist artists who came after him. He chose to paint the “Mont Saint Victoire” twenty times in his landscapes.
