Exhibition on Screen

A remarkable event occurred at London’s National Gallery when the largest ever collection of Leonardo’s surviving paintings was assembled in a unique exhibition: Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan. Leonardo is recognised as perhaps the greatest painter and sculptor of all time but there was no end to his talents. This film tells his life story and expands on Leonardo the visionary and inventor from the place where he lived out his final years at Château du Clos Lucé in France, concluding that Leonardo da Vinci was perhaps the very embodiment of the spirit of the Renaissance.

King Philip IV of Spain’s portrait painter, Diego Velazquez, (1599-1660) is the archetype of the brilliant court painter and alone embodies the stunning Spanish school of the “golden” 17th century. Admired for the psychological reality of his portraits, particularly that of “Pope Innocent X” belonging to the Doria Pamphilj Gallery, he is above all known for his masterpieces on display in the Museo del Prado, particularly “Las Meninas” where he represents himself beside the infant and her retinue. Enjoy your visit!

Architectures

Architect and urban planner Kenzo Tange is one of the most influential architects of his generation, having introduced Japan to the modern architecture discovered in the work of the masters. In 1987, he was the first Japanese to receive the Pritzker Prize, the world's highest distinction in architecture. To understand the true origins of the 2 Olympic gymnasiums built by Kenzo Tange for the 1964 Olympic Games, we have to go back to the defeat of Japan after the Second World War and the years that followed: Japan's occupation by the Americans, its absence from the international scene and its slow economic reconstruction. It's rare for a building to embody so many ambitions: those of an architect and a team of 25 young architects and urban planners, those of a city, those of a country determined to become a world power once again.
