Exhibition on Screen

John Singer Sargent is known as the greatest portrait artist of his era. What made his ‘swagger’ portraits remarkable was his power over his sitters, what they wore and how they were presented to the audience. Through interviews with curators, contemporary fashionistas and style influencers, Exhibition on Screen’s film will examine how Sargent’s unique practice has influenced modern art, culture and fashion.

In no way was Pierre Bonnard destined to be a painter. However, he became one of the pillars of the Nabi Movement. His work, more closely linked to emotions than to realism, is impossible to classify. It is punctuated with huge sunny landscapes, of both the Mediterranean and Normandy, with interior scenes, with nudes and self portraits. This exhibition offers you ten of the artist’s greatest paintings, such as his famous “Workshop with Mimosa” and his “Nude in Bathtub”. Enjoy your visit!

Architectures

In 1050, one of the first major pilgrimage churches in the Western world was built at Conques, in the middle of the wild Aveyron landscape. This was the birth of "Romanesque" architecture. The abbey church - i.e., a church belonging to an abbey - at Conques is one of the most important structures built in 11th-century France. Its coherence, its location - a small village in the Rouergue region, far from the main medieval traffic routes - its innovative aspect, its state of preservation and the fact that the relics for which it was built are still in situ, make the church at Conques the best work of art for approaching Romanesque architecture in France. In other words, to try and understand how architecture was made at that time in our history, and to dismantle not only the building itself, but also a number of preconceived ideas about Romanesque art, starting with its very name, which is an intellectual construct of the 19th century, or to put it another way: those who built Conques

A remarkable event occurred at London’s National Gallery when the largest ever collection of Leonardo’s surviving paintings was assembled in a unique exhibition: Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan. Leonardo is recognised as perhaps the greatest painter and sculptor of all time but there was no end to his talents. This film tells his life story and expands on Leonardo the visionary and inventor from the place where he lived out his final years at Château du Clos Lucé in France, concluding that Leonardo da Vinci was perhaps the very embodiment of the spirit of the Renaissance.

Of Spanish origin, Francis Picabia was an active member of the Dada group. However, being both provocative and iconoclastic, he soon began to scorn the serious nature of the avant-garde movements. His painting was at times realistic, at times abstract, and he sought above all to explore potential in art. This collection opens the doors of the Centre Pompidou (Paris) which presents some of Picabia’s major works, such as his famous “Cacodylic Eye” and “Adoration of the Calf”, recently acquired by the museum.
